Our bodies can run on two different fuel sources: glucose or fat. Our bodies first choice of fuel is glucose which is broken down from carbs and sugar. When a surplus of glucose is in our bloodstream, a hormone called insulin is triggered to store fat. Once the surplus of glucose is gone, insulin goes down and the stored fat is used as a fuel source. This is when ketones are released into our bodies. Congratulations, you are in ketosis!!! But, if you’ve never been in ketosis before, it can take several days or even a couple of weeks of following a strict diet or even FASTING to get to this point. Then you must supper through the process of becoming “fat adapted”. Commonly referred to as the “Keto Flu”, symptoms can range from low energy to actual flu-like symptoms. Bummer…
